Why is my payment being declined or not going through?
Many payment issues are caused by an Address Verification System (AVS) mismatch. This means your billing address does not match what your credit/debit card issuer has on file.
Level 1: Check Your Address and Try Again
The billing address you enter must match what your bank has on file exactly. Typically, this should match the address that appears on statements you receive for the card. Check for the following:
-
Street address and zip code
-
Correct use of abbreviations (ex. St. vs. Street)
-
Extra spaces and missing punctuation
-
Missing suite or apartment number (if applicable)
Tip: If the address you're entering is saved on your device, do not use the auto-fill functionality. Type the address instead.
Note: Some prepaid or gift cards may not be supported.
Level 2: Contact Your Bank or Try Using a Different Card
-
If your card is declined again, contact the bank that issued the card and verify the address they have on file. If the address the bank provides is different, attempt the transaction again with the updated information.
OR
-
Try submitting the transaction again using a different credit or debit card. The same address requirements apply.
Level 3: Pay Another Way
Using PAePay on the UJS Portal to pay traffic tickets, fines, costs, or restitution is not a requirement. As an alternative, you can use the information on the citation to submit your payment by mail.
